Switching ionic diode states with proton binding into intrinsically microporous polyamine films (PIM-EA-TB) immersed in ethanol

Intrinsically microporous polyamines (PIM-EA-TB) provide tertiary amine binding sites for protons and in this way allow switching/gating from a low ionic conductivity state to semipermeable anion through micropores. In ethanolic NaClO4 media PIM-EA-TB films (approx. 10 μm thick; deposited asymmetrically onto diameter microhole 5 thick Teflon) is lowered by ion exclusion compared observed aqueous environments. However, the presence of ethanol are shown switch essentially insulating anionic diode behaviour. Similar observations reported Cu2+ but not other types cations such as Na+, K+, Mg2+ (all perchlorate salts). Binding constants evaluated, protonation identified cause gating both H+ Cu2+. Both chemical electrochemical gating/switching demonstrated placing platinum electrode close film applying positive or negative bias locally generate acid/base.
